Verse 1: Say have you seen my eight hundred pound gorilla?
He used to be the monkey on my back. Some see him as a matter of contention and
some don’t see him as a matter of fact.
Verse 2: Say
have you seen my friend of the simian persuasion? Fifty-seven stone, point
fourteen. If you wish to take me at my word verbatim then you must accept him
sight unseen.
Chorus: And not to muddy the complexities
and to simplify the tone, he’s a subject best left unspoken, a topic best left
alone. He’s the product and the remnants of when two strong wills collide and
the only one left beside as pink elephants subside.
Verse 3: Say have you seen my evolutionary cousin? An apparition with a
silver back. He seems content to strike defensive affectations until he’s ready
to attack.
Verse 4: Bartender, please, another
round of liquid courage. One for me and one for my argumentative friend. But
please don’t serve a drink to my eight hundred pound gorilla, ‘cause monkey see,
monkey do, me and you, he’ll have to condescend.
